Typical...

...you wait 8 months for a post and then three come along at once.

I am having technology issues, so I can't promise I'll keep up this prodigious level of output, but I'm trying to step it up a gear. These strips are formatted to my luxurious widescreen laptop, so do let me know if the edges are cut off on your crappy monitor.

Chest Terrific!

The latest bit of design for Stage Blood, some wearable merchandise so that you can advertise to the world your unusually good music taste:

Mock-up T web

The final product should look pretty much as depicted. There may be a selection of colours, but I predict the red will be most people's first choice!

Stage Blood March

Man, I can't believe the amount of effort I put into re-drawing the image from this and then scaling up all the text and re-spacing it and so on. It doesn't look significantly better than the mock-up (below).

Ah well... has to be done I guess.

Whimsical Tuesday Project

Shoddy Toy

I spent this afternoon and evening making a creepy stuffed "toy" from an old shirt and some shredded newspaper. Considering this is the first thing of this type I've done since my "patchwork pig" in first year of high school (and that I was following no plan whatsoever) I think it turned out OK! His stitching is mostly on the inside, except for around the neck, 'cause I couldn't figure out how to do that properly.

Kearney thinks I should run a competition to find it a name. If you have a suggestion that can make me laugh half as much as I did while I was putting this monstrosity together, feel free to chime in. And if you can refer me to a decent website for shit like this, that'd be nice too.

Stage Blood 2

Kearney's got another gig next month with his excellent Stage Blood outfit, and this is my mock up for the poster. It stays with the same theme and aesthetic as the first one, but is a bit more restrained. Again, most of the composition stems from the type, and I'm pretty pleased with the internal shapes and rhythms of the text here.

Managed to keep it down to 3 fonts as well!

Is it just me?

Curses!

I got about 4 pages into my proposed minicomic before running out of ideas and motivation, and it has languished on my desk for the last few weeks. Suddenly, out of the blue, I have received a slew of stamped, self-addressed envelopes (which, looking at my post below, I did not solicit!) along with some amusing self-made order forms.

So, rather than just letting the Jungathon hardcopy edition disappear into the wasteland of my aborted projects, I now find myself OBLIGED to finish the damn thing and mail it out. Even worse, some of you seem to expect me to produce a follow up issue, since you've provided me with more than one of these bloody SAEs!

OK, I've started working on it again and will put it together as soon as I am able. Please note that I am deeply ashamed of the quality of the strips produced to date, and this whole fiasco will probably be as embarrassing for you as it will be humiliating for me.

I'll need to start smoking weed again, or something, if I'm expected to come up with something even vaguely amusing in the future...

Wave of the Past

I don't know about this whole "internet" thing everyone's been banging on about for the last few years - I've been thinking about it recently I don't think it's really going to take off. No, we're much better off sticking to the old-fashioned, traditional way of doing things, with interwoven fibres and pigments made from tree bark and badger teeth.

So, to celebrate the impotence of this new-fangled electronic medium, I've decided to produce a Jungathon minicomic and physically send it to people in the post. It's shaping up to be an incoherent mish-mash of events from my real "life", dreams, and other strands of experience demonstrating my increasing inability to distinguish fantasy from reality - as literal an interpretation of the hitherto meaningless word "Jungathon" as one could hope for, in other words!

Issue Zero is currently in production and I'm aiming to get it sent out to a handful of faithful blog readers for preliminary feedback on format and clarity. So if you'd like a small specimen of illiterature to while away the time it takes you to drink half a cup of tea, you'd better send me your address before the end of the month. You won't necessarily get one, I hasten to add, it all depends on who responds, how many stamps I can afford, and whether I follow through on getting the damned thing finished...

Filler Material

Alright, I'm planning on getting some new comics done in the not-too-distant future - I've even started some of them - and I have a few other little creative projects in the works, so hopefully we'll be picking up some momentum on here soon.

In the meanwhile, please enjoy the following photograph which I recently discovered in my archives. It's fun to get people high and then show them this...
